The News - Interviews

-Hello comrades =) Today we are having a special guest from New Zeland who are going to hit Japan in 2009 tour with their Urban Ether!

-What and who is Urban Ether?

Urban ether is a family of music artists from different genres, The album is just an exhibition  of versatility  exposing all , the artist  in Urban ether the cap .  The name express a lot but simplified  “Urban is about the street the ruff the rugged  the truth”  and ether “ is the heavens  where  we praise through our music take it to the next level there is spirituality  not in our music but in the creative process..”

When you hear Child , BC, Driphath  and Tasha on a  track .. you have Urban ether .

As for what we are .. well we are a movement best said  “ music is the book , and this is our chapter hip hop and music in general still has the power to address issues ...”

-And the singles?

Well we have three single playing on your partner radio station “Round Eye Radio ”. The song “C5 key”  was made for the ladies, just taking the time to listen  music right now  the ladies have to “drop low and shake this and  show that.. I thought ”. I just thought I would let the ladies  know  that’s some of the brothers out there are more interested  in the inner beauty .. besides that Tasha just killed the song for me , her vocal is so powerful .. we can’t wait to let it go . simple minds is rock .. and as usual just pure flavour  with message.. and Dedicated  which is just party track as always we trying to show how flexible we are and dedicated to that are we are some dance hall .

-How did you get the name concussion and move to child:

“ well hahahah .. well it comes from original style of freestyle which really hard hitting no bars held back kamakuzi style, lyrical richness  that left you with your head about to expose , then somewhere along the line they change my name to storm because of the length of the spit , back then I was still also aggressive. Finally I changed my name to child because of person reasons and enlightenment.. “ to come before god as a child” it was  important for me not to hide my heart  because without god I wouldn’t be here ”

-How did you guys come together?

Well that good question some of us have know each since we where kids , and basically music drew us together , it was really about genre but more or less music . most of started out hip hop and drifted away, but anytime we link up there just such strong chemistry that a track pops out .

-So where is every one:

Well we all off in different countries promoting and performing for know we call New Zealand home, we don’t perform much but we do or recording and mastering here . Dripath aka phlo pretty is in south Africa  doing promo and live shows , coming back to NZ in January.

Mandigho is in USA doing the same. BC is in the UK with dj Spinner setting it off for us. And Tasha and myself are in New Zealand pretty much doing the same.. We have new member of Ether but she is a secret weapon.. all i will tell you is that she is form Asia and she has amazing voice .. she will also be with us on tour .. watch out for the website ..

-Do you as artist clash artistically:

Surprisingly no.. a lot songs are written .. People pick what they want .. Sometimes we keep it pure , sometimes we take a rock element with soul or rap ... we focus on making good music .. i am not sure if we will be together for ever .. But we give each other creative lee way that stops conflict and adds to creativity, And like i said we are like a family .. show me family that doesn’t have it arguments but at the end of the day it’s all love ..  Love for each other and for music . and we have the advantage of knowing each other so long .. so yeah ..

-How did you end up planning a 2009 Japan tour?

To be honest i am not sure .. we originally laid an album down in 2005, and it didn’t get love in New Zealand so we went international with mix tapes , and large net work of dj’s like yourself giving us spin ,I think  because we had faith in our talent . and i was right we got calls from promoters and three year latter we have 4 albums ready to go and a tour of Asia the UK and South Africa planned the dates for every where else are not set but we will be in Japan in April after a short tour of New Zealand in 2009

-So are you ready for the tour now?

Definitely ready for the tour very excited first time in Asia , and we have heard amazing thing about the crowds, we are working on something really special , and well we are out there we will be linking up with local talent so it’s all hype.. we really hope to get to mingle with people .... we are not celebrities so that makes it easier to go underground and get a feel for real Japan music from rock to hip hop ... meet b boyz , check the drift scene .. everything

-What does the future hold for Urban ether/lazy eye records?

Well we have 4 album coming out from the camp Rock hip hop soul  . We have fans all around the world, so we are just going to focus on the music, and try and tour as much as we can. It’s not like we are a commercial group, we are pretty much unsigned hype. I will be doing some movie and TV work a lot song writing , and the other guys will be in the studio making new tracks working on solo projects  .. i think the secret is to stay humble and focus on the music the rest comes. And i also have book coming out .. but.....

We have an album release in April and August2009  in New Zealand and then the  UK ,  the albums  “Dedicated”  and “ the dairy of every 1 chyld” we are also working on few music videos ..

We will be on tour around new Zealand, then fly to Japan for 4 weeks and then Korea , we are trying to squeeze in Hong Kong or Singapore . We have limited funds so that limits our travel ...

Then 2009  we definitely have our eye’s on  releasing  more music , but tours have being planned for Canada , in the hope we link up  with Lady  Kay  and other gifted artist , and the a quick drop in LA, in my earlier days as an Mc in Australia  I meet Dilated people and maintained relations  so that should be good  and there a few underground artist we supposed to link up with so it all pans out . We are trying our best to get to drop in to South Africa and perform on home ground hahah .  But July 2009 we hopefully end up in the UK with Alize tour group .. Making more music. The chances are after 2009 nine we will relocate from New Zealand we are just not sure where. Maybe japan hhahah

-Do you intend to remain and in dependant  label?

That’s a hard one, the chances are  if a labels approached us before success maybe Virgin records NZ rejected our first demo .. Bmg said they would watch our progress so as i said we will see .., that’s just honesty, but we really need creative control .. we won’t sell our souls for money ...

we are what we are .. like music and human being we evolve so expect changes but Ether will always be ether... i mean we even gonna try and release our music again in New Zealand so we will see how it goes .. one step at a time .. Besides that i  don’t control all the artists they are pretty free to come and go as they please they know it i know it .. so time will tell all things

-Last words :

We just hope we get as much support as possible, a lot of hard work and faith . besides that a big shout to the fans who stood by us New Zealand, Japan, Korea, China,  South Africa, Zimbabwe, UK and everywhere  in the world  thank you. And a very big shout to our sponsor who made it all worthwhile ..

-Thank you very much for taking your time and collaborating with Japan4Music!
